Medical Respite – Sometimes our health requirements overwhelm our desire to care for our pets, due to treatments, surgery or for those who are admitted into emergency care. Length of stay is dependent on deployment length. We will provide you with updates and photos of your pet as you request via email. We ask that your pet is up to date on vaccines - DA2PP & rabies, provide adequate food for the length of stay and any comforting materials (Crate, blankets and familiar toys) to help in the adjustment period. You will require to have a referral form completed with deployment dates signed by your Commanding Officer. Military Respite – If you are going away for a training exercise or deployment and are not able to find adequate care for your pet or if you are unable to financially afford to kennel your animal, please complete our application. Substance Abuse Treatment – We will require a referral form from the treatment facility confirming your attendance and length of stay. We have a strict confidentiality clause and there will be no posts or photos of you or your animal on any of our information. You will require a referral from a social worker or Councillor to enter the program. This expense will be covered by The CAWS and not billed to the owner.ĭomestic Violence – We encourage you to use a program similar to Victims Services to help you find a safe place, get treatment and other options. *All pets that are not spayed or neutered at the time of placement will be altered while in care. Our Guardian Angel Coordinator will help determine what you require. *You will require a referral for your pets to enter the program, but you do not require it when completing the initial application. Please complete our Guardian Angel Application and one of our volunteers will contact you to review your application and requirements with you over the phone. Our variety of programs each have different requirements and expectations. This also includes all veterinary care, food, supplies and training they received while in our care. When pets are reunited with their owners there is no bill. What is the fee to have my pet placed in the program?ĭue to the generosity of sponsors and donors, and the hard work of our volunteers to hold multiple fundraisers throughout the year, the Guardian Angel Program has been able to remain a no-fee service to applicants. The maximum length of stay is two months, with the exception of members of our military who may require a longer length of assistance due to deployment. How long can my pet stay in the Guardian Angel Program? Thus, we are looking to build capacity for our GAP by expanding our foster home base, strengthening our resources ( donate here), and launching a capital campaign for the centre.įor more information please contact The CAWS at. As such, the dedication of our volunteers and foster homes, the generosity of donors and supporters, and the daily operation of our Centre are integral to sustaining the program. We will continue to provide food, pet supplies, and basic veterinary care (DA2PP and rabies vaccine, spay/neuter, microchip) for our GAP animals.īecause we believe access to our GAP should be barrier-free, we do not charge a fee for the service. This means we are halting intakes for our owner-surrender program (effective immediately), temporarily pausing our Spay/Neuter/Return program, and, once animals currently in our care find loving homes, limiting our adoption program to surrendered GAP animals only. Moving forward, The CAWS plans to focus its business model solely on the GAP. To maintain our high-quality service and positive volunteer experience, we need to reduce our program offerings. It also serves as a central location for the drop-off and pick-up of pet supplies and donations, and provides a meeting place for volunteers, donors, and community members to network and engage with each other. Our Centre for Companion Animal Welfare provides a safe and immediate landing space for pets when people initially access the GAP, allowing our volunteers time to match animals with an ideal foster home. Whether they are fleeing domestic violence, entering addiction programs, seeking medical treatment, serving in our country’s military, or dealing with a natural disaster, the GAP is there to support their pets until they can do so once again. The GAP is “a port in the storm”, providing temporary pet care solutions to people whose lives are in transition. Our focus will be on our flagship Guardian Angel Program (GAP).įrom its inception, The CAWS’ flagship Guardian Angel Program (GAP) created a niche that made us unique amongst other animal rescues. The CAWS Board of Directors have decided that effective immediately, we will no longer be operating our Owner Surrender for Adoptions program and we are temporarily suspending our Spay/Neuter/Return program.
